Leslie Pintchik (piano) (back to top) www.lesliepintchik.com
Before embarking on a career in jazz, Leslie Pintchik was a teaching assistant in English literature at Columbia University, where she also received her Master of Philosophy degree in seventeenth-century English literature. She first surfaced on the Manhattan scene in a trio with legendary bassist Red Mitchell at Bradley's, and in the ensuing years Pintchik formed her own trio which performs regularly at New York City and East Coast jazz venues that include Jazz At Kitano, Bar Next Door, the Blue Note, Cornelia Street Cafe, 55 Bar, Smalls, Knickerbocker Bar and Grill, Alvin and Friends Restaurant, Scullers Jazz Club and the Side Door, among others.
Pintchik's debut CD So Glad To Be Here was released in June 2004, followed by Quartets in 2007, both on the Ambient record label. About So Glad To Be Here, Ken Micallef wrote in DownBeat "Pintchik's music is fresh, full of light and instantly invigorating (4 stars)." In the fall of 2010, she released her third CD We're Here To Listen, as well as a DVD Leslie Pintchik Quartet Live In Concert, both on the Pintch Hard record label. Jim Wilke, creator of the nationally syndicated Jazz After Hours radio show included We're Here To Listen on his "Best CDs of 2010" list. Pintchik's fourth CD In The Nature Of Things was released on the Pintch Hard Label on March 25, 2014. Steve Futterman, in The New Yorker magazine, called it "...one of the more captivating recordings to come out so far this year..."
Pintchik's fifth CD True North — with a stellar band that features Steve Wilson (sax), Ron Horton (trumpet), Scott Hardy (bass), Michael Sarin (drums) and Satoshi Takeishi (percussion) — was released in March, 2016. All About Jazz wrote "Getting lost in this music is simply a joy. If 2016 has a more pleasurable listen to offer than True North, this writer hasn't heard it yet. (4 1/2 stars)"
Pintchik's latest CD You Eat My Food, You Drink My Wine, You Steal My Girl! was released in February 2018. It reached number 4 in the country for radio spins on JazzWeek, and also remained in the top 10 for five weeks. NYC Jazz Record wrote "...exquisitely beautiful...elegant and heartfelt...Leslie Pintchik creates a rich palette of music that is discerning, unexpected and always inviting." Also in 2018, two tracks from Pintchik’s CDs were included in the soundtrack of the recently released Orson Welles movie The Other Side of the Wind.
Scheduled for release on October 18, 2019 is Pintchik's seventh CD Same Day Delivery: Leslie Pintchik Trio Live.

In addition to composing the music for her band, Leslie has also written the liner notes for some notable recent jazz CDs, including Duologue by saxophonist Steve Wilson and drummer Lewis Nash (on the MCG label), and Daybreak by pianist Bruce Barth (on the Savant label). |

Bassist Scott Hardy hails from Houston, where he worked with "Texas Tenor" Arnett Cobb. Since moving to Manhattan, he has performed and recorded with Jack McDuff, Tal Farlow, Chris Connor, Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid and Bobby Watson, among others. Reviews
(back to top)
"...a composer of emotional depth and effortless lyricism... not every jazz pianist can keep an audience at rapt attention with mostly unfamiliar material. Pintchik can and did... she's out to weave a spell, and this she does as well as anyone on the scene... her tunes are subtle, intriguing and seductive, not-so-buried treasures waiting to be recognized and discovered by other jazz artists."
DownBeat.com (review of Dec 1 2016 gig at Jazz at Kitano by Allen Morrison)
"A crafty, lyrically minded improviser and a compelling composer..."
The New Yorker
"Leslie Pintchik's music has a magical draw to it.... Her pieces...have a way of registering and resonating both with the pleasure center of the brain and the heart... Getting lost in this music is simply a joy. If 2016 has a more pleasurable listen to offer than True North, this writer hasn't heard it yet. (4 1/2 stars)"
AllAboutJazz.com (review of True North by Dan Bilawsky)
"We're Here to Listen is that album that takes a lifetime to make and another to enjoy...Her idiom is, at once, as highly literate and cerebral as it is passionate...this is a rare collection of songs that aims its emotional arrow straight at the heart, while maintaining its highly intellectual quality."
AllAboutJazz.com (review of We're Here To Listen by Raul d'Gama Rose)
"... Pintchik's music is fresh, full
of light and instantly invigorating.... So Glad To Be Here is simply a joyous release.... Pintchik and Takeishi express such
playfulness in their musical conversations... that their elation is
contagious." (4 stars)
